Creative arts therapy is the practice of using imagery, storytelling, dance, music, drama, poetry, movement, dreamwork and visual arts in psychotherapy to foster human growth, development, and healing. It is described as an "expressive action that engages emotions in a direct and physical way; an ability to generate creative energy as a healing force for mind, body, and spirit; and a belief that the creative imagination can find its way through out most perplexing and complex problems and conflicts" (McNiff, 2005). Each therapy has its own art form, unique philosophy and framework, having the flexibility to meet the complex needs of each client. But each focuses on facilitating a client’s journey towards self-awareness and discovery by bringing about better emotional expression and strengthened self-esteem.
The course is a 2-day (14 hours) programme designed to introduce participants to the use of Visual Art, Therapeutic Storytelling and Clay with children and adolescents. The course is highly interactive using a wide range of reflective exercises and experiential activities.
